Saugatuck Community Pride Day
83 Saugatuck Middle School sixth graders worked with Saugatuck-Douglas Garden Club Members to plant flowers in planters and window boxes around downtown. After an encouraging visit from Mayor Chris Peterson
who talked about community service and hometown pride, the students were given instructions on types of flowers and how to plant in containers. They were divided into 20 teams; each with a SDGC volunteer to help them in their flower selection and planting.
This year’s success is also due to terrific support and involvement from City Council, Public Works, SDABA, Pumpernickel’s, SCA, Wilken’s Hardware, Twin Oaks Inn and Van Til’s Greenhouse

Cathy Carmichael, Community Pride Chair, tells students they are going to have a lesson on how to plant a pot.
After beautifying the streets, all participants were rewarded with a delicous cookie and refreshment break at Pumpernickel’s restaurant.
